Who am I ?
"Oh, Tell me more", you said.." I want to know more about you".. I have always said be careful what you wish for..
1. I am boldly outspoken and like to think of myself as funny. I laugh at my own jokes.. so if people don’t get the humor – it really does not matter to me.
2. I can talk – on anything and everything. The funny thing is that I don’t like to talk.
3. I am passionate about Biology – all of it. I am a self proclaimed geek.. as I always have been.
4. I am also a self proclaimed bitch – especially to people who don’t like a woman who is comfortable with her own sexuality, independence and her intelligence. So be more creative in coming up with descriptives, will ya?
5. I have the weirdest sense of humor – case in point, I laughed myself silly when I saw that right next to the Church sign post at Alumni road is a chiropractor’s sign post that says “We treat whiplash and headaches”… I told you my humor is a tad odd..
6. I like my guys tall. Firmly believe that while smart is sexy, having a sense of humor is sexier. So if you happen to be or know of a tall guy, with intelligence and sense of humor – introduce puhleaze..
7. I have a very short attention span. So I am amazed when people can argue for more than one day. After about a day of posting, I have moved on to newer things.
8. I hate people who can’t keep time. Be punctual. It's the number one reason I never attend Desi functions. I once attended a birthday party for a little girl and the host came in 45 minutes late! That drives me insane!!!
9. Contrary to popular belief, I do answer my phone. The only people whose calls I don’t answer are people who know me well enough to know I don’t want to talk right then or those who I am trying to ignore.. you decide which category you fall into..
10. I have a fascination with scientists of the past– particularly Einstein and Madam Curie.
11. I am Directionally challenged.. spin me around and I am likely to forget the way home and yet give me a map and I can find any place you want.
12. I can’t sing. People have threatened to jump out of a speeding car when I offered to give a rendition of “Stand by me”
13. I read – some say a lot.. I say not enough to satisfy the monster in my brain that goes.. more .. give me more.. I have about 100 books right now in my apartment.. and about 700 in total..
14. I love beer. One of my favorite things is try new kinds of beer. The only ones I wont drink are thick bitters –like Guinness. My favorites are wheat ales..
15. I abhor gossip magazines.. yet for some reason I have retained the trivial knowledge of who Tom Cruise dated before he married Katie.. yet I can not remember the name of that dude who gave that excellent seminar on Actin!
16. I can not stand the sight of blood.. especially my own. A reason why I knew I would not go into medicine – that and the fact that I don’t have the compassion bone in my body.
17. Like most Indians, I have a nickname (Mana) that does not even resemble my name. I love being called by it.. something only people close to me are allowed.
18. I am, contrary to what most people believe, not a shameless liberal – I stand somewhere in between.. as usual I am undecided about my political leanings.
19. I have books everywhere in my apartment. Friends have jokingly been known to place “Danger, Book minefield ahead” signs in my apartment.
20. I don’t believe in violence – but if you come between me and the last copy of the book I must have, let me just say – I have a mean left hook, practiced and perfected on my numerous cousins (in a normal boxing match.. I did not abuse any one of them)
21. I have lived in two countries and numerous states and gawd alone knows how many homes.. Just to give a reference I went to six schools in less than 2 years!
22. I got lost when I was little in Bombay. I still remember the fear I felt. For that reason, I hate to go to new places without directions.
23. I love animals. I can watch animal planet for an entire day and not tire. My fascination is of course with big cats – nothing as majestic as a Tiger or a Lioness..
24. Contrary to what people believe, I am not a feminist! I believe in equal rights for man and woman. I would love it if my man opens the door for me , just like I would love to get his beer.... as long these things are done out of love and not submitting to gender roles, I have no problems with such things!
25. I garden. The only living things in my apartment that I hold polite and courteous discussion with, are my plants. Also helps that they don’t run when I sing .. which I tend to a lot..
26. I am a total flirt. I mean really, I can flirt with almost anybody. And I can do it well.
27. I hate mind games. If you have something to say, say it. We will discuss and get it over with. Don’t pout or bitch behind my back. Grow some balls and just deal with it like a man! (or woman.. not being feministic)
28. I am stubborn. I have been known to dig my heels and refuse to submit and the occasions date back to when I could barely crawl. I am also forthright. So I tend not to make a lot of friends. Those that get past all this –are still my friends.
29. I have run a business and made profit. I also can read portfolios and not fall asleep.
30. My dream job is to be a bartender – just because I somehow think that will get me free drinks. My other dream job is that of a librarian.. ah the books..
31. I like words. I remember most of the poems I learnt as a kid. And most of the books too. As I always say, if you are good with words.. then you might just get me.. as in “get” me :P
32. I think raw tomatoes are yuck but am known to indulge liberally with ketchup. Most people who have eaten with me are used to my removing every raw slice of tomato out of a meal. And yet, as a child my mother had to hide the basket of tomatoes from me (ever since I ate about 8-10 tomatoes in one sitting)
33. I want to travel the world. One day, I will. Just up and go and be a bum around the world. I hope to see the Northern lights, the Great Pyramids and Australia before I die.
34. My ambition as a kid was to a be a Vet – A wild life Vet to be precise. That was before I knew I hated to see animals in pain or that I was likely to faint at the site of blood..
35. I watch movies – some over and over again. I can quote quite a few from the starting shot to the credits..
36. I am not comfortable with huge crowds of people. I am extremely claustrophobic (that is an excuse that most people sympathize over) .. in reality I prefer my own company.. and that of a few friends.
37. I always wanted to get a tattoo.. a small one on my ankle. But I am deathly afraid of needles. So I settle for henna drawings.. wimpy.. but hey it works..
38. I am crazy about music. I might be neck deep in work but if you holler, listen to this track – I will stop and listen.
39. I have a shoe fetish – one of the few things about me that screams Girly. I have thrown “I don’t have the right shoes for this” tantrums..
40. My favorite sport to watch is college football. And I cheer any team. Actually make that almost every team ..
41. I like making people uncomfortable. Mostly when it comes to socially acceptable norms in Desi culture or religion. Hence, people mostly leave me alone..
42. My pet projects include Homes for Mentally Challenged girls in India, Street Kids Empowerment, Abused women and Abused Children.. I take these issues very seriously.
43. In case you have not yet understood it, I am an Atheist. My family is a religious one – I just did away with the excuse of 'God' when I got into my adult years. Not in anger or denial -I just find no reason to believe that someone else is responsible for the joy or sorrow in my life. I also believe death is absolute – I will come back as something else .. since I will be cremated and the whole carbon cycle thing.. but I don’t believe in reincarnation.
44. I obsess over the Egyptian civilization and that of the Mayans.. I don’t know why. I just do.
45. I love to cook. As much as I love to eat. I am lucky that I don’t put on weight …actually even if I did I would not understand this need in today’s world to be a size two!
46. I love stand up comedy. I adore political humor more. But I can laugh at anything that is funny – so no guesses on what I watch mostly on TV.
47. I don’t believe in ghost or things like that but my favorite show at one point was Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
48. When I am stressed, I crave sugar. Other wise I hate sweets including chocolates or ice-creams..
49. I am, what a friend calls “structured”. I tend to well, plan out things I am supposed to do or have been known to make grocery lists. But when I am on vacation – I like being lazy. Just feel each day and then decide what to do.
50. I like chatting with people, either via emails or messengers.. I guess that's another reason why I blog. But for the most part people think I am a shy person (Ok.. I suffer from occasional delusions)

Very imformative. It's funny how I have not known you for very long and yet, I knew most of those. It's almost scary about the similarities. I understand the tomatoe thing. I used to eat corn like it was going to dissappear as a kid, and I don't like it now. Funny how that works.

@Never_Mind- To be fair, I posted after numerous people (well 4 to be precise :P) asked me about me. And I thought if I give them enough, it will stop the demand for more..
And may be I should put it as another point, I read, love words but can't spell :)
Hint- read in installments.. and then point and laugh . that is what most of my friends do. You don't know how many times I hear, well go get a shot when allergy season hits and I start sneezing! Friends!!

Hey - mine too ! You do get free drinks (often offered by customers), but practical experience tells me that drinking and bar-tending does not go hand in hand (there is an direct correlation between sobriety and bartending efficiency).
I gathered your sense of humor from your liking of Monty Python and DNA (two of my favs as well along with PGW)....
but 6-6.5 - thats err...setting the bar pretty high ;-)

On second thoughts, I have decided that all guys should get a chance- so lowered the bar to 5 ft 9.. all takers bid begins now..

may be I should substitute the tall for a guy with a well stocked bar!
On second thoughts, I have decided that all guys should get a chance- so lowered the bar to 5 ft 9.. all takers bid begins now..
You tell me - I can not now offered to drink other than rum drinks (got the bottles as gift)- I am now drinking cheap beer! the terrible tragedy of being a grad student ..
may be I should substitute the tall for a guy with a well stocked bar!
Surprisingly, there was hardly anything that I did not know (or hadn't guessed) or anything at all that took me by surprise. The culprit, I believe would be our Friday nights and the countless bottles of beers...Here's to our Friday nights! Which I hope there will be more to come :)

I have always been a sweet bundle of joy. Don't listen to the rumors that some have started. I am a sweet and ever so gentle soul. really, deep deep down.. that's who I am. (or if you are drunk :P)
In my humble opinion, any martini worth it's olives should be made of vodka (I think Gin makes it too dry), But then it does nto become a true martini, does it? On top of it all, I am allergic to something in the Vodka distillation thingie..so I make mine out of gin. There I covered all bases :)
Should I book our tickets to Vegas??
