More so, since Indian families are extended and hence the child could be exposed to animosity. However I know at least a couple of people who have adopted and they feel blessed to have a healthy child.

@Anon - yes, I agree. The laws should make sure that the child's interest is always safe gaurded. Yet, there are a couple of things that can be changed. The family case study for foreign people si done twice, once by a CARA appointed agency and then by CARA itself. This takes a long time and one of the studies can be dropped. More ever, I think the post adoption vigilance should be given more improtance. Another thing is that instead of giving custody under GAWA, foreign nationalsshould be made to fulfill all adoption proceeding in India.

@ Mazhalai - Way To GO!!! I am happy and proud to hear that.

im sure ill do it one day... just a matter of time...

im sure ill do it one day... just a matter of time.

A delicate issue , well handled Sakshi,but before ...

A delicate issue , well handled Sakshi, but before going after the govt. policies with all guns blazing, also consider why such apparently nonsense guidlines are there, ofcourse giving an orphan a loving home asap is important but to be careful about a child not to send him to a wrong home, and save them from possible exploitation is of even greater priority, waiting longer seems like a small price to pay to avoid such incidents.
Ofcourse the process can be fast tracked but not at the cost of taking the matter lightly

Wow, I am glad posted about this!!
